San Diego County to Double Safety Net Bridge Food Distribution Sites With Six New Locations This Winter

San Diego County announced on October 15 that it will double its Safety Net Bridge food distribution program this winter, adding six new locations in high-need ZIP codes identified through county data.
Anticipated new sites named by the county include Lemon Grove, Mountain Empire, National City, San Ysidro and Southeastern San Diego, with additional locations under discussion for 2027. The program is operated with the San Diego Food Bank and Feeding San Diego. Between August 8 and October 10, it served more than 2,400 households across 16 events. Several sites now combine food distribution with vaccinations, behavioral health connections, housing resources and services for seniors and families.
The expansion comes as federal benefits changes affect local residents. The county said about 2,200 people in San Diego County have lost food benefits since June because of re-implemented federal work requirements; of more than 37,000 people up for renewal in the same period, nearly 8,000 did not complete renewal paperwork. Additional help is available through the county's Federal Impacts Assistance Hub.
