Giant Bicycle Recalls LED-Light Bike Lock Keys Over Button Battery Risk

Saturday, October 17, 2026 · Life · GSM News

Giant Bicycle is recalling the LED-light keys included with its SureLock bicycle lock sets because children can access and swallow the keys' button cell batteries, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). If swallowed, the batteries can cause injuries, internal chemical burns and death. About 3,630 keys are included in the recall, including 1,395 sold in Canada.

The recalled black-and-white Giant-branded LED-light keys come with a bike lock and two or four non-LED keys, depending on the model; only LED-light keys manufactured after March 2023 are affected, and the serial numbers of included locks — located on the underside of the lock — are listed on the CPSC recall page. The locks were sold at Giant authorized stores nationwide and online from March 2023 through August 2026 for between $25 and $65. The product and packaging also lacked federally mandated warnings about ingestion risk. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

The recall covers the LED light keys included with nine models across the Protector and Flex Key lines.

Consumers should stop using the recalled LED-light key and contact Giant Bicycle for a $5 refund, bringing the LED key to an authorized retailer along with either the complete lock or a photo of its serial number for verification. The bicycle lock and the non-LED keys included in the sets can continue to be used. (GSM, based on the CPSC recall notice and Bicycle Retailer reporting)
