Compton: Missing 11-Year-Old Melanie Ortiz Located the Same Day
LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) advised on October 17 that Melanie Ortiz, an 11-year-old girl from Compton, has been located.
The department's Compton Station had issued a critical missing juvenile alert earlier the same day: Ortiz was last seen on October 17 at 1:00 a.m. on the 800 block of West 134th Street in Compton. She was described as 5 feet tall, 100 pounds, with shoulder-length red dyed hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a brown shirt and black shorts. Compton Station detectives had asked for the public's help locating her, saying her family was concerned for her well-being.
In its follow-up notice, the department thanked the public, the media, and deputy personnel for their tireless efforts in the search. The notice did not disclose where she was found or details of her condition.
