HPD Arrests 47-Year-Old Suspect for Second-Degree Murder in Young Street Investigation
Honolulu is a city in Honolulu County, Hawaii (a consolidated city-county). The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) said District 1 patrol officers responded to the Young Street area at about 8:20 p.m. on October 16 following a report of a stabbing, and found a 42-year-old man suffering from stab wounds. HPD opened a murder investigation into the case. Police did not release the victim's name or details of his condition.
During the investigation, HPD's Homicide and Strategic Enforcement Detail, with assistance from the Forensic Video Unit, reviewed hours of surveillance footage, located and interviewed numerous witnesses, and collected evidence. Through those efforts, a 47-year-old man was identified as a suspect, HPD said.
At 4:30 p.m. on October 17, the District 1 Crime Reduction Unit located and arrested the suspect for murder in the second degree. HPD said the investigation remains ongoing and that charges will be sought with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney. Police did not release the suspect's name.
HPD's releases did not say whether the victim and the suspect knew each other, and no motive has been announced. The circumstances of the October 16 stabbing on Young Street remain under investigation.
