Buses Replace Blue Line Trains Between the Airport and Mall of America in Minneapolis This Weekend

Minneapolis is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Metro Transit has replaced trains with buses on the southern end of the METRO Blue Line this weekend so crews can complete needed maintenance work. The agency's service-changes page says buses began replacing trains at 8 p.m. on Friday, October 16, and train service will resume on Monday, October 19.
The affected segment runs between the Airport-Terminal 2 station at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport and the Mall of America station in Bloomington, with replacement buses also serving the American Blvd, Bloomington Central and 30th Ave stations. Metro Transit has posted replacement bus boarding maps for each station; at Airport-Terminal 2, only southbound trips use the replacement buses.
The Blue Line runs about 12 miles from Target Field in downtown Minneapolis through the airport to the Mall of America and is one of the Twin Cities' busiest light-rail lines and the main public-transit link to the airport. During the shutdown, airport travelers and Mall of America passengers must transfer to buses for this southern segment.
Metro Transit advises riders to plan extra time, because replacement bus timing can vary and trips may take longer than the train. Riders can call 612-373-3333 for information or sign up for text and email Rider Alerts. Trains are scheduled to return to the affected stations starting at 3 a.m. on Monday, October 19.
