Proposed Historic District Would Recognize Sacramento's LGBTQ+ Legacy in Lavender Heights

Sacramento is a city in Sacramento County, California. KCRA 3 reported on October 17 that a proposal to designate Lavender Heights as a historic district could help preserve buildings connected to Sacramento's LGBTQ+ history, including sites associated with activism, community building and care during the AIDS crisis.
Lavender Heights, in the Midtown area, has long been the center of Sacramento's LGBTQ+ community. Supporters say a historic district designation would help protect the buildings and secure formal recognition of the neighborhood's history.
The report did not specify a timeline for the proposal's review; further city proceedings and hearings are yet to be announced.
