Salt Lake City Delta Center Redevelopment to Include Live Nation Venue and Convention Center Rebuild

Saturday, October 17, 2026 · City · GSM News

Salt Lake City is a city in Salt Lake County, Utah. New details of the downtown Salt Lake City redevelopment around the Delta Center include a new concert venue operated by Live Nation and a full rebuild of the Salt Palace Convention Center, TicketNews reported this week.

Salt Lake County plans to replace the existing Salt Palace with a redesigned convention center featuring additional meeting rooms, exhibition halls and two ballrooms, able to host multiple major conventions at once; the Salt Palace is expected to close for about three years beginning in fall 2027, according to KSL. The district also plans a new Utah Museum of Contemporary Art building, renovations to Abravanel Hall, a hotel, residential buildings, offices and new dining and retail. Mayor Erin Mendenhall praised the pedestrian connections, saying the existing convention center layout acts as a barrier separating parts of downtown: "The new district breaks down that wall."

In October 2024, the Salt Lake City Council approved a 0.5 percent citywide sales tax increase projected to generate about $1.2 billion over 30 years, with up to $900 million supporting Delta Center renovations and the surrounding district. In April 2025, the council approved a separate public infrastructure financing mechanism for an estimated $1.8 billion in downtown upgrades. Smith Entertainment Group plans to invest about $3 billion in the broader redevelopment, and officials project the completed district could attract about five million visitors a year.
