Waymo Opens Driverless Rides to Everyone in Tampa Starting October 14

Tampa is a city in Hillsborough County, Florida. Waymo's fully driverless ride service opened to everyone in Tampa on October 14, the company announced, dropping the waitlist and invitation system that previously stood between riders and a ride. Anyone with the app can now hail a driverless car within the service area.
Waymo says it has carried hundreds of thousands of riders across Tampa, San Diego and San Antonio since each city opened earlier in 2026, with trips to beaches, a hockey game, the River Walk and grocery stores. All three cities opened to the general public on October 14, and San Antonio also gained pickups and drop-offs at its international airport.
Scott Young, board chair of Lighthouse for the Blind & Low Vision in Tampa, said the change gives riders with vision loss their independence back, while a disability group said Waymo still has not answered its biggest question about the service.
