Follow-Up: Huanggang Crossing Braces for First Holiday Rush, Over 100,000 Daily Crossings Expected

The rebuilt Huanggang crossing is facing its first holiday travel rush since reopening, with daily passenger journeys expected to exceed 100,000 over the three-day Chung Yeung Festival long weekend. Hong Kong Security Secretary Chris Tang said on Saturday, October 17, that the crossing handled around 92,000 passenger journeys on Friday, following daily totals of roughly 80,000 from Monday to Thursday.
Tang said operations had generally run smoothly, with border clearance under the new co-location and joint-clearance arrangements usually taking less than five minutes. Authorities have arranged sufficient staffing to open all automated and manual inspection channels when needed, with additional personnel deployed at the public transport interchange to manage passenger flows.
The crossing reopened earlier this week after reconstruction; GSM previously reported that clearance times had fallen from about 30 minutes to around five minutes. The long weekend is an early test of the revamped facilities and transport arrangements linking Hong Kong and Shenzhen. (GSM, based on RTHK reporting)
