Follow-Up: PG&E Restores Power to More Than 66,000 PSPS Customers, Crews to Resume Patrols Saturday Morning for Remaining Customers

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) said in an update at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 16, that more than 66,000 customers who lost power in this Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) had been restored after weather improved and crews completed safety inspections. PG&E said crews would resume patrols and restoration work on Saturday morning, October 17, to restore power to the remaining customers.
Restoration advanced through the day on October 16. In its 8 a.m. update that day, PG&E said all PSPS customers had been de-energized, for a grand total of 85,905 customers, with the largest groups in Calaveras County (10,793), San Luis Obispo County (8,771), El Dorado County (8,757), Madera County (7,273), Tuolumne County (7,248) and Placer County (5,306). By 4:30 p.m., about 33,611 customers, or 39% of those impacted, had been restored; PG&E said at that time that the weather that prompted the PSPS had passed for 25 counties and six tribal areas, including Alameda, Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Fresno, Lake, Lassen, Madera, Mariposa, Mendocino, Napa, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Shasta, Sierra, Solano, Sonoma, Tehama, Tulare, Tuolumne and Yolo counties, among others.
In the Bay Area, according to an earlier update, 5,857 customers remained without power as of 5 p.m. on October 16, including 2,592 in Napa County, 2,130 in Alameda County, 1,092 in Sonoma County and 43 in Contra Costa County, while Solano County customers had been fully restored. PG&E said that before power can be restored, crews must inspect lines and equipment to confirm there is no damage or hazard before re-energizing.
The scope of this PSPS was first set on the evening of October 14, covering about 88,000 customers in 29 counties, including about 5,500 Medical Baseline customers, with shutoffs carried out starting that evening. PG&E said customers can check their restoration status at pge.com/pspsupdates.
