$4.2M Emergency Project on SR-111 Along the Salton Sea Brings All-Day One-Way Flagging

Saturday, October 17, 2026 · California · GSM News

Caltrans is carrying out an approximately $4.2 million emergency repair project on State Route 111 along the Salton Sea in Riverside County. Flooding, washouts, debris flows, blocked culverts, erosion and guardrail damage from Tropical Storm Rachel have required all-day one-way alternating traffic control on the highway.

Crews first placed temporary concrete k-rail on the southbound shoulder on Friday. Daytime repair work runs on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. between Crooker Drive and Vanderveer Road near North Shore, with the California Highway Patrol assisting with traffic control.

Caltrans has not announced a completion date for the emergency project, and drivers should allow extra time through the work zone. (Reporting via MyNewsLA, citing Caltrans)
