$61M Shoulder Widening on SR-79 Near Temecula; Flagging Waits Can Reach 45 Minutes

Saturday, October 17, 2026 · California · GSM News

Temecula is a city in Riverside County, California. Caltrans District 8 is advancing a roughly $61 million shoulder widening project on State Route 79 near Aguanga, from north of the SR-79/SR-371 junction to south of Pauba Road, near Temecula.

During construction, one lane is closed and traffic in both directions is guided through by flaggers, with temporary traffic signals operating around the clock. Daytime flagging runs Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Waits run about 10 to 25 minutes per flagging point and can reach 45 minutes or more at peak times when multiple points are active. Night work is currently paused.

Caltrans expects the project to be completed in spring 2027.
