Saturday, October 17, 2026 · California · GSM News

The U.S. Attorney's Office announced that José María Mena Rosales, 38, of Fontana in San Bernardino County, has been charged in a federal criminal complaint with possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Law enforcement seized approximately 360 kilograms (793.7 pounds) of cocaine, packed in 17 cardboard boxes, from his San Bernardino County apartment and garage.

According to the affidavit supporting the complaint, the drugs had been delivered in four suitcases at a public parking lot in Fontana in February 2026. Mena Rosales was arrested on Wednesday, October 14, and made his initial appearance on October 15 in federal court in Riverside. U.S. Magistrate Judge David T. Bristow ordered him released on a $50,000 bond, with arraignment set for November 10 in U.S. District Court in Riverside. Records show he was previously deported in May and June 2014.

The FBI is investigating the case with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Courtney N. Williams is prosecuting. If convicted, the defendant faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years and a maximum of life in federal prison. A complaint is merely an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
