Saturday, October 17, 2026 · Society · GSM News

New York City is a city in New York County, New York. The New York Police Department on Saturday afternoon, October 17, released photos of a suspect in the fatal shooting on a Midtown Manhattan subway platform. Police said the man in the photos is believed to be the person wanted in the killing, who remains at large; no arrest has been made.

The shooting happened at 12:21 p.m. on October 17 on the northbound E train platform at the Seventh Avenue station at West 53rd Street. A man was shot in the chest after a dispute and was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital, as GSM reported earlier. Police have not released the victim's name or age.

According to NBC New York, citing police, detectives released photos believed to show the gunman. MTA Chief Security Officer Michael Kemper said in a statement that the incident was 'evidently a dispute between three individuals that ended tragically,' and that the MTA had coordinated with the NYPD from the earliest minutes to retrieve video from platform and train-car cameras. The New York Post reported that the killing was the seventh murder in the New York City transit system so far this year.

Police have described the shooting as targeted, not random. The gunman fled north on Seventh Avenue and was last seen wearing a red tracksuit, a black vest and a black face mask and carrying a backpack. The NYPD asks anyone with information to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-8477. (GSM, based on reporting by NBC New York and the New York Post)
