Ruoning Yin Roundup: Asian Games Team Gold and Individual Silver; Third After Three Rounds at Buick LPGA Shanghai
On October 3, the golf competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games concluded at the Kasugai Country Club East Course in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. China's women's team of Ruoning Yin, Liu Yan and Zhang Weiwei won the team gold medal with a total of 538 strokes (22 under par), eight shots clear of second-place India — China's first Asian Games women's team gold in golf. In the individual event, Yin shot rounds of 67, 66, 66 and 67 for 266 (14 under), tying Singapore's Shannon Tan for second, then beat Tan on the first hole of a silver-medal playoff to take the silver. India's Pranavi Urs won individual gold at 265 (15 under).
According to Titan Sports, Yin said afterward: "These four days were not easy, but I really believed in my teammates. I felt we would hold on and win this gold medal. This is my third Asian Games, and this gold makes up for earlier regrets." She had won team bronze with China at the previous two Asian Games.
After the Asian Games, Yin returned to her hometown of Shanghai to compete. The 2026 Buick LPGA Shanghai is being held October 15-18 at Sheshan International Golf Club in Songjiang, with a $3.2 million purse and a field of 81 players. Yin opened with a 68 (4 under), closing with three consecutive birdies. "Those three birdies I made at the last definitely boost some confidence in me," she said.
Through the third round on October 17, Yin stands alone in third place at 7 under par. South Korea's Hye-Jin Choi leads at 9 under, with Amy Yang second at 8 under; Yin is two shots off the lead. The final round will be played on October 18; this report reflects the standings through round three. Yin won this tournament in 2024; the defending champion this year is Thailand's Jeeno Thitikul.
