Columbus Community Shelter Board Sets Goal of Ending Family Homelessness by 2031, Backed by $1.2 Million Crane Family Gift

Columbus is a city in Franklin County, Ohio. The Community Shelter Board on October 15 announced an ambitious multi-million-dollar plan to end family homelessness in Columbus and Franklin County by 2031, backed by a $1.2 million gift from the Crane Family Foundation.

The board called the Crane family gift "the first major philanthropic investment in the multi-year effort." The money will be used to prevent families from becoming homeless while helping those struggling to return to stable housing more quickly. The board said it will expand proven prevention and housing strategies, invest in "deeply affordable" housing, and establish a permanent funding source to sustain families in the long term.

"Ending family homelessness is an ambitious goal, but we believe it is achievable," said Shannon TL Isom, president and CEO of the Community Shelter Board. "We know prevention works, we know housing works, and we know we can do more when our community works together. The Crane family's $1.2 million investment gives us critical momentum to expand these proven strategies and change how our community responds to family homelessness."

The Community Shelter Board is the public-private partnership that coordinates the Columbus region's response to homelessness.
