Detroit Unveils Ninth Annual Halloween in the D: Trunk-or-Treat at Police Precincts and Fire Stations on October 31

Detroit is a city in Wayne County, Michigan. Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield joined city officials, community representatives and corporate sponsors at an October 13 news conference at the Helen Moore Community Center to outline plans for the ninth annual Halloween in the D. The celebration, which began in 2018, runs on October 24, October 31 and November 7 and is led by the Department of Neighborhoods with support from the General Services, Police and Fire departments.

Most events take place on Halloween, October 31, when Detroit Police precincts across the city host trunk-or-treat events — the 2nd, 5th and 7th precincts at recreation facilities — and Detroit Fire engine houses hand out candy from 5 to 7 p.m. Recreation centers citywide will host haunted houses, carnival games, arts and crafts, face painting and more.

The Parks and Recreation Division also sponsors ScareFest on October 24 at Palmer Park (910 Merrill Plaisance), a free event from 5 to 10 p.m. with a haunted trail, rides, laser tag, food trucks, candy giveaways and free shuttles, and Fall Fest on November 7 at Chandler Park. A Halloween decorating contest returns this year, with awards for best theme, scariest house and most participation; block clubs are encouraged to enter.

"Halloween in the D gets better every year and that's thanks to the great work of city employees and our many sponsors," said Mayor Sheffield. In 2025 the events distributed more than 1 million pieces of candy, drew over $104,000 in donations, more than 700 volunteers and attendance above 30,000. The city is still soliciting sponsors, candy donations and volunteers; details are at halloweeninthed.org or (313) 224-4415.
