Cindy Crawford Breaks Silence on Son Presley Gerber's Death: 'We Are Beyond Heartbroken'
LOS ANGELES — Supermodel Cindy Crawford spoke publicly for the first time about the death of her son, Presley Gerber, in an Instagram post on Oct. 18, nearly a month after he died. The statement was signed by Crawford, her husband Rande Gerber and their daughter Kaia Gerber.
"We are beyond heartbroken to lose our beloved son and brother," the statement said. "We feel so blessed to have had Presley in our lives for 27 years. He is a sweet, beautiful soul who loved and is loved, now and forever. We are so proud of how he showed up in the world, with kindness and vulnerability. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from so many who know and love our family and even strangers who feel our pain. Til we meet again our sweet boy. We love you forever, Mom, Dad and Kaia." The post featured a black-and-white photo of Presley.
Presley Gerber, the only son of Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber and the older brother of model and actress Kaia Gerber, died on Sept. 20 at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner records. He was 27. A family representative said in an earlier statement that the family was asking for privacy during a very difficult and painful time.
The Santa Monica Police Department said on Sept. 21 that the death was being investigated as a suspected overdose and that there was no indication of foul play. His autopsy has been completed, but the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has not released an official cause of death, which remains deferred pending further investigation.
Kaia Gerber posted her own tribute the same day, writing that being his sister "has always been, and will forever be, my favorite thing about myself," alongside a childhood video of the two dancing.
Born in 1999, Presley Gerber signed with IMG Models at 15 and went on to model for brands including Dolce & Gabbana and Calvin Klein. He had spoken openly about his mental health and addiction struggles and shared his efforts to seek help on social media. His final public appearance was at a panel discussion about mental health.
