Celtics Convert Devin Carter to Two-Way Contract as Providence Star Returns to New England

BOSTON — Boston is a city in Suffolk County, Massachusetts. The Boston Celtics announced on Sunday, October 18, that they have converted 24-year-old guard Devin Carter to a two-way contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Carter starred at Providence College: after spending his freshman season at South Carolina, he transferred and in 2023-24 started all 33 games, averaging 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists, won 2024 Big East Player of the Year honors, and became an NBA lottery pick — the third Providence lottery pick since the format was introduced in 1985.
He appeared in 74 NBA games over two seasons with Sacramento, making 12 starts while averaging 6.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 14.8 minutes per game. This summer, Sacramento traded Carter to Atlanta in a salary-clearing move and the Hawks later released him. He impressed in his Celtics preseason debut with 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals against Cleveland, but missed Boston's final three preseason games with an illness. Carter is the son of former NBA player Anthony Carter. A two-way deal allows a player to split time between an NBA team and its G League affiliate — in this case, the Maine Celtics.
