Dallas 'Guns to Gardens' Collection Turns Surrendered Firearms Into Garden Tools

DALLAS — Dallas is a city in Dallas County, Texas. The North Texas "Guns to Gardens DFW" program held a firearm collection event on October 18 from 2 to 5 p.m. at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church, where residents could anonymously surrender unwanted guns to be dismantled by blacksmiths and remade into garden tools and artwork.
According to The Dallas Focal, participants may receive gift cards after the firearms are processed. People arriving with firearms were asked to keep them unloaded and secured in a vehicle's trunk or rear cargo area; a firearm safety officer removed the guns and oversaw their dismantling. Organizers say that once a firearm is dismantled under federal guidelines, it is no longer legally considered a gun and ownership is not transferred.
Father Casey Shobe, rector of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Dallas, said a previous event at his church in fall 2025 drew households with young children and families concerned about a loved one's illness or depression. He connected the effort to the passage in Isaiah about turning weapons into tools for cultivation, describing the transformation as a powerful experience. The program is run by a public charity organized by local faith-based community safety advocates. (GSM, based on The Dallas Focal reporting)
