Sunday, October 18, 2026 · City · GSM News

Honolulu is a city in Honolulu County, Hawaii (a consolidated city-county). On the night of Oct. 17, homecoming night at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex in Honolulu, the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors collapsed in the second half and lost 21-10 to the visiting New Mexico Lobos, their fourth straight defeat.

The first half belonged to the hosts. Behind quarterback Micah Alejado's passing, the Rainbow Warriors completed a 1-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter and took a 10-0 lead into halftime. After the break, the momentum flipped: New Mexico running back Scottre Humphrey scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter to cut the margin to 10-7.

The fourth quarter was the turning point. Alejado scrambled toward the end zone and looked set to extend the lead, but the ball was knocked loose at the 1-yard line and New Mexico recovered in the end zone for a touchback. New Mexico quarterback Toa Fa'awe then scored on a 21-yard touchdown run to take the lead, and Humphrey sealed the win with a 49-yard breakaway run with 3:24 remaining.

Hawaii fell to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the Mountain West; New Mexico improved to 5-1 with its first-ever 2-0 start in the conference. The Rainbow Warriors visit Northern Illinois on Oct. 24.
