Developer Withdraws $180 Million Raleigh Data Center Proposal Amid Resident Opposition

Raleigh is a city in Wake County, North Carolina. Raleigh officials announced this week that developer Beacon Partners has withdrawn its proposal to build a data center at the intersection of Jones Sausage Road and Rock Quarry Road. According to Data Center Dynamics, the project planned a 100,000-square-foot building on 13 acres zoned industrial mixed-use, with potential total investment of about $180 million. Named the "Jones Sausage Road Data Center" (also Radius DC Raleigh I), the site at 3101 Jones Sausage Road in Raleigh's Garner area had previously been planned by Stephens Center Inc. for a smaller industrial building.
Reports say word of the project surfaced only earlier this month and immediately drew a strong reaction from nearby residents — more than 100 citizens had signed up to speak ahead of this week's Raleigh City Council meeting. Beacon Partners is a North Carolina-based real estate firm; RadiusDC, the name attached to the project, is a U.S. edge data center operator launched by IPI Partners in 2022 and acquired by Blue Owl last year, with operating and under-construction sites across the country.
Beacon Partners has not commented on the withdrawal.
