Hornets Waive Championship Veteran Pat Connaughton in Roster Trim
Charlotte is a city in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The Charlotte Hornets announced on Saturday, October 17, that they have waived veteran guard Pat Connaughton. It is the second time in a calendar year the Hornets have waived him, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported, but unlike in February — when Charlotte quickly re-signed him — this time his Hornets tenure is officially over and the team will not bring him back.
Connaughton, 33, played 42 games for Charlotte last season, averaging career lows of 7.1 minutes and 2.6 points (minutes the fewest since his rookie year). His résumé remains decorated: a key rotation player on the Milwaukee Bucks' 2021 championship team, 440 regular-season games over seven seasons in Milwaukee, and a career-high 43 points wearing a Bucks uniform in the regular-season finale on April 13, 2025. He was traded to Charlotte after the 2024-25 season.
Teams must finalize rosters before the new season opens on October 20; Charlotte's 15-man roster will be set within the next two days.
