Michigan Upsets No. 1 Denver 4-1 on the Road, Ending the Pioneers' 19-Game Win Streak

Sunday, October 18, 2026 · City · GSM News

Denver is a city in Denver County, Colorado (a consolidated city-county). NCAA men's hockey delivered a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown on Friday night, October 16, as second-ranked Michigan went into Denver and beat the top-ranked Pioneers 4-1, ending a 19-game winning streak that dated to January. The game came on the night Denver raised its national championship banner from last season, and Michigan spoiled the celebration.

The Wolverines controlled play: Jayden Perron opened the scoring in the first period with his eighth goal of the season; Malcolm Spence scored in both the second and third periods, including an empty-netter; and Cole McKinney also scored in the third. Denver did not score until the final three-plus minutes, with its net empty. The win was also revenge for Michigan's Frozen Four semifinal loss to Denver last April.

Michigan goaltender Jack Ivankovic made 27 saves for his fifth win of the season and surpassed 1,000 career saves. The weekend back-to-back series concludes with Game 2 in Denver on Sunday night, October 18, at 8 p.m. ET.
