Eason Chan Announces 26 'Recording Session' Shows in Hong Kong — Phones Sealed, Silence Required

HONG KONG — Marking 30 years in music, Eason Chan has announced an unprecedented run of 26 shows titled 'Recording Sessions with Mr. Eason Chan,' to be staged at the Lyric Theatre of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts from Dec. 12 to Feb. 20. The concerts double as a large-scale live recording project.
Each performance runs about 100 minutes in two parts. To protect recording quality, organizers have set strict rules: phones must be switched off and sealed in provided pouches, photography and filming are banned, and audiences must stay silent during songs — no applause, cheers or conversation — except in designated segments.
Chan will re-record classics from across his career, including the albums 'With Me' (與我常在), 'My Happy Era' (我的快樂時代) and 'U87.' The live recordings will be compiled into a new physical album.
With seats strictly limited, tickets will be sold by online registration and lottery through Cityline, with the first round of registration opening Oct. 28. The no-cheering rule has sparked heated discussion online, with supporters calling it a rare chance to take part in the making of an album.
