Activision: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Will Conclude the Series, With a New Sub-Franchise to Follow

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, set for release on October 23, will be the final entry in the current Modern Warfare series, Activision Chief Marketing Officer Tyler Bahl said in an interview with The Game Business, with an entirely new sub-franchise to follow.
"I don't want to give any spoilers, but this is going to be the epic conclusion of this recent series of Modern Warfare," Bahl said. He added that some characters and elements could live on in reinvented form: "We're excited by closing this chapter and launching a new one." Bahl said the groundwork for a future title as a new sub-franchise has already been laid, and that players' appetite for something "new, better or different" drove the decision.
Developed by Infinity Ward, Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 — the series' first appearance on a Nintendo platform since 2013. The campaign is set on the Korean Peninsula around a North Korean invasion, with Captain Price returning under the tagline "No line holds forever."
