Man Charged With Murder After Fatal Shooting Outside Garland, Texas Business; Police Cite Earlier Argument

GARLAND, Texas — A man was found shot outside a business in the 500 block of West Oates Road at about 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, and was pronounced dead at the scene after Garland Fire Department paramedics responded, Garland police said. The victim's identity has not been released. Police arrested Ezequiel Hernandez, 31, of Mesquite, and charged him with murder; he was being held at the Garland Detention Center without bail. A murder charge is an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Investigators said Hernandez and the victim had argued inside the business earlier in the night, and that after the business closed, Hernandez allegedly shot the victim in the parking lot and fled in a white Ford F-250 truck. Officers later located Hernandez and the vehicle at a home in the 1300 block of Summit Street in Mesquite, where he was taken into custody.
Police said it is not yet clear what prompted the initial argument, and the investigation is ongoing.
