White House Casts Trump as a One Piece Captain in New Post: 'The Mark of a Good Crew'
On November 3, the official White House account on X posted a custom illustration in the style of the Japanese manga One Piece, captioned with a single line: "The Mark of a Good Crew." In the image, President Trump stands at the bow of a vessel modeled on the Going Merry, wearing a red "Make America Great Again" cap, while Vice President JD Vance and other administration members are drawn as crew members.
One Piece, created by Japanese manga artist Eiichiro Oda, follows Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates on their voyage for treasure, and is one of the best-selling manga series in the world. The post spread quickly among anime fans and political watchers, with entertainment outlets including FandomWire and Netflix Junkie covering it the same day.
It is not the first time an official administration account has borrowed anime imagery. According to FandomWire's account, in September 2025 the Department of Homeland Security posted an immigration-enforcement video using Pokemon footage, after which the Pokemon Company said it had not participated in or authorized the use; in March 2026, the White House posted a Pokemon-styled "MAGA" image. For the One Piece post, the White House has not said whether it obtained authorization from the franchise's rights holders.
