Man Charged With First-Degree Murder in Fatal Shooting at Lexington, North Carolina Party

LEXINGTON, North Carolina — Officers responding to a reported shooting at 1000 South Talbert Boulevard at 1:23 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, found Robert Jermaine Thomas, 44, of Salisbury, with gunshot wounds, the Lexington Police Department said. Officers provided emergency aid before Thomas was taken to Lexington Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators determined that a large party was taking place when an altercation occurred, leading to the shooting.
Police charged Davonte Martese Kind, 25, of Thomasville, with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Investigators say Kind left the scene in Thomas's vehicle, which was later recovered in Thomasville. Kind had been taken by private vehicle to Duke University Hospital in Durham for treatment of a gunshot wound sustained during the incident; after he was medically cleared, he was taken into custody at the hospital at 12:45 p.m. Bond and court information is not yet available. The charges are accusations and do not establish guilt.
Investigators are still working to determine whether anyone else was involved. Police thanked the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the Thomasville Police Department, the Davidson County Sheriff's Office and the Davidson County District Attorney's Office for their assistance. Anyone with information can call the Lexington Police Department at 336-243-3302 or Lexington Crimestoppers anonymously at 336-243-2400.
