October Is Domestic Violence Awareness Month: 2026 Theme 'With Survivors, Always'; Nevada Proclamation and Boston Resolution Mark the Month

WASHINGTON — October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). The 2026 national theme, "With Survivors, Always," was chosen by the Domestic Violence Awareness Project, which said the theme responds to violence being minimized, cuts to services families rely on, and increased barriers to safety for survivors and their children, adding that "survivors deserve action."
States and cities have marked the month with official actions. Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo signed a proclamation in Carson City on September 24 declaring October 2026 Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Nevada, stating that domestic violence affects people of every age, race, ethnicity, gender identity and socioeconomic background and that all Nevadans must unite to reduce harm. The Boston City Council adopted a resolution declaring October 2026 Domestic Violence Awareness Month and encouraging residents to learn the signs of domestic violence and assist those in need.
Advocates at the National Domestic Violence Hotline answer calls, chats and texts around the clock; the organization said it took its 8 millionth contact on July 29, 2026, three decades after its first call in 1996. The hotline number is 1-800-799-7233, texts can be sent by texting START to 88788, and emergencies should be reported to 911.
