Mexico Discontinues All Warnings as Hurricane Trudy Moves Away From the Coast
MEXICO CITY — Mexico has discontinued all hurricane and tropical storm warnings for its Pacific coast and the Islas Marias as Hurricane Trudy moves away from the mainland, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in its Advisory No. 22 issued on the afternoon of October 18, adding that no coastal watches or warnings remain in effect.
At 2 p.m. MST on Sunday, Trudy's center was located at 19.5N, 107.0W, about 290 kilometers (180 miles) west-northwest of Manzanillo and 170 kilometers (105 miles) southwest of Cabo Corrientes. Maximum sustained winds were near 100 mph (155 km/h), keeping Trudy at Category 2 strength, and the storm was moving northwest at about 6 mph (9 km/h) with a minimum central pressure of 974 mb.
The NHC said Trudy's center will move farther away from Mexico's mainland coast tonight, then pass south of Baja California Sur on Monday and Tuesday. Rapid weakening is expected to begin tonight, and Trudy could degenerate into a post-tropical low by Tuesday night. Hurricane-force winds extend up to 45 kilometers (30 miles) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds up to 150 kilometers (90 miles).
Interests in southwestern and west-central Mexico should continue to monitor Trudy, the NHC said. Trudy had strengthened offshore last week, at one point reaching Category 3 intensity, prompting a hurricane warning for the coast from Manzanillo to Cabo Corrientes.
