Follow-Up: Trump Says East Potomac Golf Renovation Starts November 15 Despite Judge's Notice Order

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said on Sunday that renovation work on the East Potomac Golf Links in Washington will begin on November 15 and that the historic public course would reopen in about 15 months, according to Reuters. Trump announced the timetable in a post on Truth Social.
The announcement comes after U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes ruled earlier this year that the government must give notice before any substantive construction work on the course could proceed. Last week Reyes ordered a halt to tree removals at the site, which she called "inexcusable." The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether Sunday's announcement would conflict with Reyes' directives.
The renovation has been tied up in litigation since February, when the DC Preservation League sued to halt the administration's takeover of the course, alleging violations of environmental laws and the irreversible destruction of a piece of American history. In an October 9 court filing, the administration asked Reyes to dismiss the suit as premature because the proposed project remained at an early, conceptual stage. The following day, however, the government removed about 500 trees from the site, saying the work would improve safety and restore the park's original design under a 2019 plan. Reyes ordered the removals stopped. On Friday, the government moved to disqualify Reyes, saying her actions showed "deep-seated and unequivocal antipathy toward the Trump Administration," according to court records.
Trump had earlier this year said the renovation would begin in September. The East Potomac course, on Hains Point in East Potomac Park, is one of three Washington golf courses owned by the National Park Service.
