Trump Blames Immigration for France Unrest in Truth Social Post, Urges France to Close Its Borders

Washington — U.S. President Donald Trump weighed in on France's days-long protests and unrest in a post on his Truth Social platform on October 18, blaming immigration for the violence and urging France to close its borders.
"France is burning! The immigration of people from an entirely different world, people with hatred in their hearts, has shattered that once great country. Close your Borders and take control, before it is too late!" Trump wrote in the post, published at 8:11 a.m. EDT on Sunday.
Vice President JD Vance had echoed the same line a day earlier, writing on X that Western liberals "imported the third world into France and other countries in the name of diversity and compassion" while ignoring "fundamental questions of assimilation and compatibility," and adding that he prayed for France, according to AFP.
France's protests began with students demanding more teachers and better school conditions and have since widened to the cost of living and public services. Interior Minister Laurent Nu\u00f1ez said Sunday that more than 2,000 people had been arrested nationwide, more than 600 police officers, gendarmes and firefighters had been injured, and two people had died \u2014 a protester north of Paris who suffered cardiac arrest during the unrest, and a 22-year-old police officer in Nantes who was struck by a third-party vehicle. President Emmanuel Macron was set to address the nation on television at 8 p.m. Paris time on Sunday (11 a.m. Pacific).
