Colton: I-10/Mt. Vernon Avenue Improvement Work Continues This Week, With Daytime Lane Closures Oct. 19-23

Monday, October 19, 2026 · California · GSM News

The City of Colton Public Works Department has issued this week's traffic alert for the Interstate 10 / Mt. Vernon Avenue interchange improvement project: construction continues through the week, and N. Mt. Vernon Avenue will see intermittent daytime lane closures from Monday, October 19 through Friday, October 23, with traffic delays expected.

According to the notice, crews will continue drainage and shoring work along eastbound and westbound I-10 between 9th Street and Sperry Drive during the week of October 19. Daytime work will take place behind K-rail barriers, followed by backfilling. Pavement work will also continue on the eastbound I-10 off-ramp at Mt. Vernon Avenue. On N. Mt. Vernon Avenue, between E. Valley Boulevard and the eastbound I-10 off-ramp, intermittent lane closures are scheduled daily from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The city says detour routes will be posted, and motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use alternate routes when possible. All construction is weather-permitting and the schedule is subject to change. Spanish-language construction information is available at (877) 55-SBCTA.

The project is a partnership of the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA), Caltrans, and the City of Colton. It includes replacing and widening the existing Mt. Vernon Avenue bridge over I-10, upgrading roadway and intersection operations, enhancing bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and providing ADA-compliant curb ramps, crossing activators, and tactile warning surfaces at intersections with crosswalks. Construction began in May 2026. (GSM, from the City of Colton notice and the SBCTA project page)
