RDU Welcomes First Mexican Carrier as Volaris Launches Nonstop to Guadalajara

Monday, October 19, 2026 · City · GSM News

Raleigh is a city in Wake County, North Carolina. Volaris Airlines' inaugural flight landed at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) on Oct. 16, greeted by a traditional water-cannon salute to open the new RDU–Guadalajara nonstop route — the airport's first Mexican carrier.

The route is flown by Airbus A321neo aircraft with 238 seats, three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, RDU said. It is RDU's third nonstop route to Mexico, linking into a hub network of 70 destinations. 'We are thrilled to welcome Volaris as our newest airline partner. Our guests have long asked for nonstop service to Mexico, and Volaris will connect RDU and our vibrant region with Guadalajara for the first time, serving both business and leisure travelers,' said airport authority president and CEO Michael Landguth. Volaris chief commercial officer Holger Blankenstein said the airline will keep expanding its network as cross-border demand grows. RDU now handles more than 115 daily departures and a record 91 nonstop destinations. (GSM, via RDU and the North Carolina Business Desk)
