Culver City Manager's October Letter: Three More Community Conversations This Fall; Purchase Option Approved for 9050 Washington Boulevard

CULVER CITY, Los Angeles County, California — City Manager Odis Jones has issued his October 2026 message to residents, reporting that the Culver CityBus team is mourning the loss of a teammate, identified in the letter as Bruce. CityBus service was temporarily suspended earlier this month so the transit team could come together and grieve, and the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has filed charges in the case, which Jones called an important step toward accountability and justice. He thanked the Culver City Police Department, the Los Angeles Police Department, the LA County Sheriff's Department, the DA's Office, the FBI and other law enforcement partners for their coordination. The letter did not disclose details of the case.
The "What's Next, Culver City" community conversation series, which began a new round at Fox Hills Park in late September, will hold three more sessions this fall: Tuesday, October 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the El Rincon Cafetorium; Monday, November 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Rotunda Room of the Veterans Memorial Building; and Saturday, November 21 at 1:00 p.m. at the Culver City Senior Center.
On land use, the City Council and the Culver City Public Finance Authority Board in September unanimously approved a Purchase Option Agreement giving the authority the exclusive right, but not the obligation, to buy the approximately six-acre property at 9050 Washington Boulevard. The option period runs through February 28, 2027, while the City completes due diligence and independent analysis and gathers community input before any recommendation. No purchase or development has been approved; possible uses include public parking, recreation, economic development, tourism, housing and new revenue.
The letter also noted the grand opening of new playground equipment at Culver West Alexander Park, featuring a shaded sandbox for digging "dinosaur bones" along with climbing and play structures; the park is visited by thousands of children each year and sits next to the Community Center that houses the City's Spanish-immersion day care. Culver City was also named one of 14 finalists for the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) 2026 Most Business-Friendly City Award, with honorees to be announced November 4 at LAEDC's 31st Annual EDDY Awards. In August, Jones joined a Los Angeles regional delegation to the Netherlands focused on preparations for the LA28 Olympic Games. (Source: Culver City City Manager's October 2026 message)
