About 200 Xalirium Adult Portable Bed Rails Sold on Amazon Recalled; CPSC Cites Fatal Entrapment and Asphyxiation Risk and Violation of Federal Standard

Monday, October 19, 2026 · Federal · GSM News

About 200 Xalirium adult portable bed rails sold on Amazon have been recalled because users can become trapped in or beside the rail and suffocate, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on October 15, according to Medical Daily. The recall number is 27-029.

According to the CPSC, a user can become entrapped within the rail or between the rail and the side of the mattress, which creates a risk of death by asphyxiation; the rails violate the federal mandatory safety standard for adult portable bed rails. The recalled rails also lack adequate structural stability and retention straps, which creates a fall hazard, and they do not carry the hazard warning labels that the federal standard requires.

The rails were sold on Amazon from February through August 2026 for about $60. They were imported by Opal Vista Ltd., doing business as usOpal, and manufactured in China. No incidents or injuries have been reported. Adult bed rails are often bought by families to help an aging parent, or a relative with dementia or limited mobility, get in and out of bed — users who may be unable to free themselves if they slip into a gap.
