The event was jointly organized by the U.S. Guangdong Association, Chicago's Moy Family Association and the Chicago Volleyball Association, and drew five Chinese community teams.
Play began at 10 a.m. The five teams were the Wan Hao Restaurant team, the Moy Family Association team, the Rong Cheng Kitchenware team, the Keung Kee Restaurant team and the Starlight Restaurant team. After a day of competition, the Moy Family Association team won the championship, followed by Keung Kee in second place, Wan Hao in third, Rong Cheng Kitchenware in fourth and Starlight in fifth.
Representatives of the organizers spoke at the opening, including Golden Phoenix Restaurant owner Bin Chen, Guangdong Association president Jianming Chen and Moy Family Association chair Shimeiying Moy. Held for the first time, the friendly tournament was organized to promote exchange and friendship, with no prize money and trophies for the winning teams; the organizers and sponsors jointly covered the day's venue rental and provided breakfast, lunch and dinner for participants. The organizers said they hope the tournament will encourage more Chinese residents to take part in sports, enrich community cultural life, strengthen ties among community organizations, and continue as a regular event.
