Chinese American Museum and The Ebell Present 'Never Forget: 1871' Tonight, Marking 155 Years Since the 1871 Chinese Massacre in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES — In the city of Los Angeles, in Los Angeles County, California, the Chinese American Museum of Los Angeles and The Ebell of Los Angeles co-present 'Never Forget: 1871,' a live musical production staged on Monday evening, October 19, at 7:30 p.m. at The Ebell of Los Angeles, 743 S Lucerne Blvd, Los Angeles, marking the 155th anniversary of the 1871 Chinese Massacre in Los Angeles.
Created by composer Nathan Wang, the production retells the 1871 massacre through live music and narration, pairing Western instruments with traditional Chinese instruments. A special presentation before the performance provides historical background. In October 1871, mob violence against the city's Chinese residents killed 18 Chinese residents, in one of the worst episodes of anti-Chinese violence in the city's history.
According to the organizers, tickets are $25, with proceeds supporting the museum's future programs and exhibitions. The performance is part of the museum's week-long 155th anniversary remembrance series, which concludes with the annual remembrance ceremony on October 24 at 7 p.m., featuring a candlelight vigil and a traditional bowing ceremony; advance registration is required.
The Chinese American Museum, located in downtown Los Angeles's historic district, documents the history of Chinese Americans through exhibitions and public programs. Ticketing and series details are on the museum's events page. (GSM, based on the Chinese American Museum of Los Angeles's published announcement)
