PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia is a city in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania (a consolidated city-county). Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is holding two days of memorial services on October 19 and 20 for fallen police officer Shane Seiber. Seiber, 40, was fatally shot on October 10 while responding to a report of a person with a gun on the 100 block of North 52nd Street in West Philadelphia. Police say Seiber and his partner were ambushed at a porch; Seiber was shot three times and died of his injuries, while his partner, Officer Hector Rodriguez III, was shot 12 times, survived and remains hospitalized. Investigators have identified the gunman as Eric Lewis, who is in custody.

Seiber grew up in Levittown and Langhorne and lived in Bensalem. He joined the Philadelphia Police Department in 2016 and served in the 22nd and 19th districts. Before that, he was a U.S. Air Force airman stationed at Dover Air Force Base with the 436th Security Forces Squadron, completing two tours in Iraq in 2007–2008 and 2008–2009. He is survived by his wife of 11 years and their two young children. According to the department, Seiber is the fourth Philadelphia officer killed in the line of duty since 2023.

On October 19, a Commander's March is set to begin at 5 p.m. at Archbishop Ryan High School and proceed to the John F. Givnish Funeral Home, where a public viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. On October 20, a second viewing will run from 8:15 to 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, followed by a funeral service at noon and a private interment. Police expect a large turnout of officers and community members.

The services bring extensive road closures. Academy Road is closed in both directions between Comly and Red Lion roads from 3:30 p.m. on October 19 until that evening's service ends. From 5:30 a.m. on October 20, sections of Broad and 15th streets between Spring Garden and Callowhill streets, Callowhill Street and 17th Street in Center City are scheduled to close until the funeral procession passes, and Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 16th and 22nd streets and nearby streets close from 6 a.m. until the funeral ends. Police advised drivers to plan alternate routes. (GSM, based on Philadelphia police announcements and reporting by FOX 29 and phillyburbs.com)
