NASA to Brief Artemis Acceleration Plans on Oct. 23; Astronauts to Return to the Moon's Surface by 2028

WASHINGTON — NASA will provide an update on its plans to return American astronauts to the surface of the Moon by 2028 at 2 p.m. EDT on Friday, October 23, at the agency's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the agency announced in an October 14 media advisory. Briefing participants include NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, Associate Administrator Amit Kshatriya, and Artemis program manager Jeremy Parsons.
The update will include details about the Artemis III mission, which will send four astronauts to low Earth orbit next year to test critical systems needed for future lunar landings. NASA says its Artemis astronauts will undertake increasingly difficult missions near the lunar South Pole, establish an enduring human presence on the Moon, and build the foundation for the first crewed mission to Mars.
