Five Utah National Parks Offer Free All-Terrain Wheelchairs for Selected Trails

The National Park Service announced on Oct. 8 a new all-terrain wheelchair program at five Utah national parks, giving visitors with limited mobility a way to explore selected trails. The non-motorized chairs have three large, soft wheels for uneven ground including sand, rocks and steps, weigh 50 pounds, and each park has at least one, provided free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.
At Arches National Park, the chair is available from the visitor center. It requires an assistant to push it; the user and assistant must complete a waiver, one of them must show identification and proof of insurance, and a ranger provides a short training session. Visitors are advised to contact each park about availability and eligible trails.
