St. Clair Says Musk Cut Child Support to $20K a Month After She Refused NDA; Musk Denies It

In the documentary "Musk," released in US theaters on October 16, 28-year-old author Ashley St. Clair tells her side of the child-support dispute with the world's richest man, Elon Musk, over their son.
St. Clair says Musk's financial manager, Jared Birchall, sent her a nondisclosure agreement labeled as a child support agreement via Signal about two months after their son, Romulus, was born in September 2024: a $15 million lump sum plus $100,000 a month for 20 years - worth about $40 million in total, by her account - in exchange for keeping the boy's existence secret. She refused to sign, saying she did not want her son to feel like a secret.
After she declined, she says, the monthly payments were cut to $40,000; after she publicly announced in February 2025 that she had given birth to Musk's child, they were cut again to $20,000 a month. At that rate, payments until Romulus turns 21 would total about $5 million.
The two met through interactions on X in 2023. In February 2025, St. Clair filed for sole custody of Romulus in New York, and the custody case remains unresolved; her legal team has alleged that Musk "substantially" reduced his support after she went to court, and she has said the cuts left her facing eviction and forced her to sell her Tesla.
Musk denies St. Clair's account. Replying to coverage on X on September 9, he wrote: "She was never offered that and has a history of making false claims." He has previously said he paid St. Clair $2.5 million and was not against establishing paternity. "Musk" was directed by Academy Award winner Alex Gibney and premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 8.
