F1 Fuel Flow Meter Patent Lawsuit Filed in Western District of Texas Ahead of US Grand Prix

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · City · GSM News

A patent dispute over Formula 1 fuel flow meters has been filed in Texas ahead of the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Travis County, Texas. British manufacturer Sentronics Holdings has sued German rival Allengra in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas, alleging infringement of its US patent No. 11,391,609.

The complaint, filed October 16, says Sentronics' own laboratory testing in 2024 showed Allengra's system uses its patented design, and that Allengra has continued despite formal notice of infringement served in August 2025, making the alleged infringement willful. Sentronics is seeking damages and a jury trial. Sentronics was the FIA's exclusive fuel flow meter supplier from 2018 to 2025; Allengra won the 2026-2030 contract, and its devices are now used by all F1 teams.

Sentronics is not seeking to stop this weekend's United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas (October 23-25), instead seeking lost-profit damages dating back to the patent's issuance in July 2022. The FIA and Allengra have not yet responded to requests for comment. (GSM, via RacingNews365)
