$20,000 Reward Extended in Fatal La Mirada Road-Rage Shooting: Delivery Driver Nestor Tlahuel Mendez Was Killed on Rosecrans Avenue in 2023

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in California voted unanimously on October 20 to extend a $20,000 reward in a fatal road-rage shooting, approving a motion by Fourth District Supervisor Janice Hahn. The victim, Nestor Tlahuel Mendez, 30, a food delivery driver, was shot by an occupant of another vehicle while driving near the border of La Mirada and Santa Fe Springs on March 29, 2023, and later died.

According to the Sheriff's Department, Mendez was driving westbound on Rosecrans Avenue between Valley View Avenue and Marquardt Avenue at about 9:15 p.m. on March 29, 2023, when someone in another vehicle opened fire. He was struck once in the left shoulder and was later pronounced dead. His 15-year-old cousin, a passenger in the car, was not injured. Investigators believe the shooting was motivated by road rage.

The suspect vehicle was described as an older-model black sedan, seen on surveillance video leaving the area via Alondra Boulevard and the Santa Ana (5) Freeway toward Firestone Boulevard. The reward was first established by Hahn in August of this year and has now been extended by the Board. Anyone with information can contact Sheriff's Detective Christopher Dimmitt at 323-890-5545 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 800-222-8477.
