In Victorville, a city in San Bernardino County, California, a carjacking unfolded on the afternoon of Sunday, October 18. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Allen Christopher Hodge, 47, of San Bernardino, got into a victim's running vehicle in the 12200 block of Hesperia Road just before 1 p.m. The victim held onto the steering wheel and told Hodge to exit the vehicle, sheriff's spokeswoman Socorro Cuevas said. Hodge refused and drove away with the victim still holding on; the victim was dragged by the vehicle and sustained injuries.

The victim was treated by paramedics for apparently minor injuries, officials said. Minutes later, deputies received a report of a car matching the description of the stolen vehicle driving erratically near Hesperia Road and Green Tree Boulevard, about two miles to the north. They found the car abandoned near Hughes Road.

Hodge was subsequently located on Hughes Road riding an electric bicycle he had taken from a nearby residence, Cuevas said. He was detained and the bicycle was returned to its owner. Hodge was arrested on suspicion of carjacking, with bail set at $240,000 pending an initial court appearance. Records show he has six open criminal cases involving charges including driving without a license, driving recklessly with a suspended license, grand theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.
