Missing 18-Year-Old with Autism Who Walked Away from Reseda School Is Found; CHP Cancels Endangered Missing Advisory

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · California · GSM News

In Reseda, a neighborhood of Los Angeles in Los Angeles County, California, an 18-year-old man who walked away from his school has been found. On Monday, October 19, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) canceled the Endangered Missing Advisory it had issued, saying Junior Saavedra had been found. No details were released about when or where he was located, or what condition he was in.

The CHP had issued the advisory on behalf of the Los Angeles Police Department. Saavedra was last seen about 11:50 a.m. on Friday, October 16, near the Diane S. Leichman Career Preparatory and Transition Center in the 19000 block of Gault Street, and was believed to be on foot. His mother, Maria Saavedra, told reporters her son has autism and the mental capacity of a 4-year-old, cannot feed or care for himself, and does not know his way back home. She said the school called her at roughly 1 p.m. that day.

Saavedra was described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing a black hat, a white T-shirt, gray pants and black-and-white shoes. The CHP said an Endangered Missing Advisory is designed to help law enforcement agencies investigating the suspicious disappearance of at-risk missing or endangered people.
