The City of Cerritos, in Los Angeles County, California, has announced two items on the municipal election and city services. The candidate nomination period for the City Council election opens at 8 a.m. on November 9, 2026, and closes at 5 p.m. on December 4, 2026, and a new full-service online permitting portal launches on October 26.

Cerritos will hold its general municipal election on March 2, 2027, with two City Council seats to be filled. The City Council has adopted resolutions formally calling the election and placing a council-initiated charter amendment on the ballot asking voters whether future city elections should move to November of even-numbered years and consolidate with statewide elections. Prospective candidates must file nomination papers with the City Clerk's office during the nomination period.

On city services, the new online permitting and approval portal for the Community Development and Public Works departments launches on Monday, October 26. Planning approvals, building and safety permits, public works permits, excavation and encroachment work, and inspections will move to a fully digital process at cerritos.gov/permits, where an instructional video will be posted at launch. To prepare for the transition, permitting and approval services at both departments are unavailable from October 19 to 23, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., while staff remain available for general inquiries. Mayor Lynda Provido Johnson said the portal will modernize how Cerritos does business and better support the community's residential and commercial needs.
