Del Mar Council Postpones 10th Street Affordable Housing Item to Nov. 10

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · California · GSM News

The Del Mar City Council has postponed action on an affordable housing proposal for a city-owned site on 10th Street from Oct. 20 to Nov. 10, the city announced Oct. 19. Del Mar is a city in San Diego County, California. After the Oct. 20 council agenda was published, city staff communicated with the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) and recommended continuing the item to allow time to evaluate upcoming actions to ensure Housing Element compliance. Del Mar must develop at least four affordable housing units on the vacant 0.10-acre site at the southwest corner of the Civic Center complex. As originally scheduled, the council was to consider awarding an Exclusive Negotiating Rights Agreement and a Predevelopment Funding Agreement to Gangi Development Company, setting a negotiating period and a timeline for pre-planning, studies, community outreach, environmental review and entitlements; the action would not have approved any specific development proposal. Any future proposal, covering elements such as unit counts, dedicated parking and design, will go through community outreach and review by the Design Review Board and the Planning Commission before final council action.
