Irvine, Orange County, California: The Orange County Power Authority (OCPA), a not-for-profit community clean energy provider, on October 20 announced five recipients of its annual Bright Futures Grant program. A total of $100,000, in grants of $20,000 each, will support local organizations expanding renewable energy education, workforce development and community outreach across Orange County.

The recipients are BRDG Bridge-To-Connect, which will run a 20-week Innovation Challenge preparing college students in Irvine and Fullerton for clean energy careers through mentorship, hands-on research and community choice aggregation curriculum; Cool OC, expanding its Youth Climate Leadership Program across OCPA member cities; the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Orange County, implementing the multilingual Orange County Sustainable Futures Initiative with seminars, webinars, STEM activities and the 2027 Go Green & Health Expo; OC Goes Solar, training Irvine Valley College and UC Irvine students as Clean Energy Ambassadors; and SoCalYEA, whose 12-month Green Generations multilingual education initiative aims to reach at least 8,000 residents and train 100 clean energy ambassadors.

"Building a cleaner energy future starts with giving our communities the knowledge and resources to take part in it," said Susan Sonne, OCPA board chair and a Buena Park city councilmember. The authority said recipients were selected for their approaches to educating diverse communities about renewable energy and community choice aggregation, with an emphasis on underserved communities, multilingual education and collaboration.
